Extending rental agreements
Rental agreements can be extended upon written, informal application (also via email) until the maximum rental period is reached (depending on the student residence 6-7 semesters), if the regular period of study has not yet been reached.
An extension beyond the maximum rental period is only granted under certain conditions. The application to extend the rental agreement must be submitted, no later than the 26th of January for the summer semester and the 28th of June for the winter semester, to the accomodation office. Later received applications can only be considered if the apartement has not already been re-hired. However, there is no claim to this. An administrative fee will be charged for a belated application for extension of the rental contract.
Terminating rental agreements
Rental agreements can strictly only be terminated ahead of schedule as of 31 January or 30 September.
To do so, a complete and signed termination form and the deposit refund form must be submitted to the housing administration by 31 January at the latest for the summer semester or by 31 July for the winter semester.
Cancelling rental agreements
The Student Services will agree to an early cancellation of the rental agreement in certain cases. In each case, the requirement is that Augsburg Student Services find a suitable new tenant who fulfils the admission conditions, therefore guaranteeing that the place is rented seamlessly. Cancellation is strictly only possible at the end of the month.
There is no entitlement to early cancellation. The Student Services reserves the right to reject corresponding applications without indicating reasons.
Cancellation applications must be submitted to the housing administration together with the deposit refund form (original copies, for example by fax or post) at least 4 weeks before the proposed cancellation date. The cancellation option does not apply to exchange students.
