Over 1,500 students have used the Student Services’ psychological counselling service in the last decade and demand is increasing year after year.
The current problem situation is clarified by means of up to ten one-on-one interviews, and customised solutions are sought. Both study-related and personal problems can be discussed. You can seek clarification as to whether your problem is an illness that requires treatment (e.g. depression, anxiety disorders) or use counselling simply as individual coaching.
If psychotherapy seems sensible, general counselling takes place on issues relating to psychotherapy. Direct recommendations of therapists are not made.
Counselling is subject to confidentiality (§ 203 StGB). There is no exchange of information with the university, college, counselling centres, health insurance companies, parents, etc., unless you release the counsellor from the duty of confidentiality. Taking advantage of the counselling does not lead to any disadvantages as a civil servant or the conclusion of insurance contracts.
