Augsburg Student Services was established in 1973 – three years after the University of Augsburg was founded. It can, therefore, look back on four decades of providing student services.

 

The knowledge that a successful course of studies doesn't just depend on lectures and seminars, expressed in student support as early as the 1920s, was decisive for the establishment of student services. Social conditions that facilitate the necessary concentration for studies are also crucial.

 

Augsburg Student Services is responsible for around 37,000 students at the University of Augsburg and the Augsburg, Kempten and Neu-Ulm universities of applied sciences. We provide a comprehensive service that aims to help students to resolve any questions and problems that arise in connection with their studies. With a balance sheet total of more than € 50 million and more than 200 employees, we not only provide a diverse range of inexpensive catering options for students and staff at six canteens, seven cafeterias and five café bars, but also offer students a reasonably priced roof over their heads in nine residential buildings with a total of around 2,000 apartments. Within the framework of the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG), we help students with financial support during their studies. In addition to the services mentioned, we award short and long-term loans in special situations and offer advice on student financing issues.

 

We give assistance in all situations with our psychological, social and legal counselling. We also look after up to 70 children belonging to our students at our day care centre, so that it's also possible to successfully study with children. Thus, we are making an important contribution to the realisation of equal opportunities and to the improvement of students' living situations within our area of responsibility. In doing so, we create the basic conditions for finishing your studies quickly at all of our universities. Our actions are always aimed at not only maintaining current performance levels, but also extending our services appropriately in certain areas, for example through the creation of a new living area, a tutor programme to support foreign students and the promotion of students' cultural work.
